The Jr. Beta Club at JES is an honor society that promotes academic achievement, character, leadership, and service. Fourth and Fifth Grade students can participate in this club. Our JES Junior Beta Club is helpful to our school, district, and community by completing service projects such as a supply drive for All 4 Paws, planting flowers around the school, and even helping to create a clothing closet for our school. This club teaches its members about the importance of service, character, and being leaders in the school building alongside their academic endeavors.
JES Jr. Beta Club is sponsored by Ms. Morgan Turner.
The Jr. Beta Club at JMS acknowledges outstanding academic achievement in our 6th-8th students as well as excellent character. Our club has around 90 participants and competes annually at the SC Jr. Beta Convention. Last year, we advanced to compete at the national level in Orlando, FL. We have high hopes for this year and intend to compete at state in Myrtle Beach in January, as well as Nashville, TN this summer!
JMS Jr. Beta Club is sponsored by Mrs. Brittany Carter.
The National Beta is a national organization honoring and recognizing students for their achievement, character and leadership qualities, as well as encouraging growth through service and comradery. National Beta is dedicated to leading by serving others which is its motto “Let Us Lead by Serving Others”. The four pillars: Achievement, Character, Leadership, and Service is the core of National Beta.
The chapter of the National Beta at Johnsonville High School is for all ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders who have an overall cumulative average of 90.0 without rounding and no major discipline referrals.
Johnsonville High School is proud to have a chapter in National Beta because we demonstrate leadership and service by community projects we undertake as a club. In addition to service projects as a club, each student must complete their individual service hours each semester to give back to their community. We demonstrate achievement by maintaining our grades, and we demonstrate character by people a role model for other students to look up to. Our club has gone to state and national Beta competitions where we have came out as state champions and national champions!
JHS Beta Club is sponsored by Mrs. Kimberly Shelley.
Florence School District Five’s Gifted and Talented Program supports students who show strong academic or artistic abilities and may need learning opportunities beyond the regular classroom. Students are identified through a careful, multi-step process that looks at thinking skills, academic achievement, and classroom performance, following South Carolina guidelines. Although identification as academically gifted is possible at any grade from grades 3 to 12, most students are identified in the earlier grades. When a student is identified, a parent letter is sent, along with a request for parent permission. Seventh and eighth grade students are eligible for services as artistically gifted. Once identified, students remain in the program through graduation unless a parent requests withdrawal. The district offers a variety of service options, including pull-out classes, honors courses, and gifted art, to help students grow their talents while meeting their individual learning needs.

Johnsonville Middle School
Johnsonville Middle School Academic Challenge is a competitive, quiz bowl–style team where students work together to answer questions across a wide range of subjects including math, science, history, literature, and current events. Students compete in fast-paced matches that test both their knowledge and their ability to think quickly under pressure. It’s a great opportunity for students to grow academically while also building teamwork, confidence, and communication skills.
Our team currently has 9 members, made up of motivated and high-achieving students from 7th and 8th grade, who enjoy learning and competing.
This year, our team has accomplished several achievements, including:
• 4 wins 2 loses
• David Green is our MVP of the season
We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication our students put in each week during practices and competitions. Academic Challenge not only strengthens academic skills, but also creates a fun and supportive environment for students to grow and succeed.

HOSA-Future Health Professionals is a gift that opens the door of opportunity for students across America looking to pursue careers in the health care field. The organization is student lead and is recognized across the nation. The organization was created to foster leadership and provide ways for students to hone skills needed to be successful in the healthcare world. To start the 2025/2026 school year, we started a HOSA chapter at JHS. Students are able to compete at the State Leadership Conference in March. Students choose their own competitions. At the conference, if you do not advance to the second round, there are speakers about different topics of interest surrounding health care. This is not limited to doctors and nurses; this encompasses vet med, pharmacy, athletic training, PT, OT and various other areas.
Johnsonville High School currently has 30 members; only 6 attended this year's SLC. We are looking forward to growing as our health science program grows.
