Mission Statement
The mission of
Florence County School District Five is to develop responsible and
productive life-long learners by providing challenging, developmentally
appropriate opportunities which maximize the talents and abilities of
students in a safe, supportive environment.
Visions
- Have high expectations for all students. These expectations will be supported by improved test scores;
- Ensure all students are actively engaged in meaningful learning and experiences;
- Use data to inform and drive decisions regarding curriculum and instruction;
- Provide state of the art technology and training for its utilization throughout the system;
- Communicate with all stakeholders in the community to enhance educational opportunities for children.
General Information
Florence School District Five is one of five school districts in Florence County. It is a small, rural district located in the lower part of Florence County that includes the city of Johnsonville and the surrounding areas. The district covers approximately 88 square miles that includes a total population of 6,440 residents, which includes the 1,480 residents within the town limits. The town hosts approximately 90 businesses and a variety of religious organizations/churches
As with many small-town communities, the identity of Johnsonville is closely related to the accomplishments of the schools. Community members hold high academic expectations, fully expecting the students, faculty, and staff to embody the district motto, "Every Student, Every Day." Florence School District Five employs 107 certified teachers and administrators. Florence School District Five serves 1250 students at the three schools within the district.
Florence School District Five offers various programs and services to meet the needs of all students. In addition to 4K through fourth grade, the Johnsonville Elementary campus also houses Head Start and Special Services classes for students with mild to severe disabilities for the district. Students at Florence School District Five can receive support services such as Speech, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. All district staff work collaboratively to provide a safe, data driven learning environment for "Every student, every day!" as South Carolina and Florence School District Five provides instruction based on the South Carolina College and Career Readiness standards. The district strives to close achievement gaps, recruit exceptional faculty, and proceed with providing every student in the district an exceptional educational experience every day so they are prepared to be college and career ready when they graduate from Florence School District Five.
